FIELD: railway track; construction of railways. SUBSTANCE: rail butt joint has cover plates 2 located on both sides of rails 1 and bent in plan with diverged ends parallel to rails. Located between ends is insert with trough to receive the other rail whose end has foot slot and recess to embrace locking member from atop in form of lateral bolt passing through coaxial holes in cover plate holes and in insert walls.
