FIELD: turf processing, in particular, separation of fractions used in production of large-pore filtering medium. SUBSTANCE: method involves grinding turf; mixing it with water to obtain turf suspension having predetermined concentration and separating it by means of mesh filters. Turf is preliminarily soaked in 3 - 5 volumes of water and held for 2-4 hours, with bubbling for 15-20 min being periodically provided; effectuating single or double-staged washing in 12-16 volumes of water on bubbling screen and simultaneously separating solid component of suspension into fractions with sizes within the range of 8-16 mm, 2-7 mm and less than 2 mm.
