FIELD: colorimetry. SUBSTANCE: image of an object to be measured is formed. After passing light through light filters of a measurement system, quantities of three separated basic colors are measured. Indications taken for these quantities are encoded or digitized to provide information signals. For this purpose codes or digital signals are produced by dividing the indications into a reference indication of quantity of basic color or into indications of quantities of basic colors. Reference indications are taken in measuring quantities of three separated basic colors on a reference specimen. The measurement system is preliminarily balanced by equalizing indications taken from photodetectors, used for each of basic colors as means of measuring quantity of light, to a reference quantity of color.
