FIELD: production of tantalum and niobium including alkali metal reduction with subsequent leaching alkali metal residue from the obtained metal. SUBSTANCE: subjected to reduction are polymeric metallo-organic compounds of tantalum and niobium; it is carried out in an autoclave in a two-phase medium consisting of liquid carbon tetrachloride and alkali metal at the temperature of decomposition of polymeric compounds into monomers with a subsequent isolation of the obtained product by cooling the reaction suspension down to the room temperature and decantation of the liquid phase with excess alkali metal; leaching of alkali metal residues is accomplished by alcohol.
