FIELD: mechanical engineering; electron beam welding of structural materials with checking and control of specific power of electron beam in process of welding. SUBSTANCE: device includes beam current control unit 5 connected to electron gun 1 analog-to-digital converter 8 and digital computer 9 connected in a definite manner. Electron beam current is periodically changed according to rectangular law, and focusing system current is changed in jumps with negative and positive increments. Simultaneously amplitude of current pulses in plasma is measured and electron beam is focused to amplitude maximum. Beginning of jump-like increment of focusing current is brought into coincidence with beginning of rectangular pulse of electron beam current. Time to maintain constant value of focusing current after jump-like increment is set equal to duration of rectangular pulse of beam current. Current in plasma is measured before end of rectangular pulse of electron beam current. EFFECT: improved stability of penetration depth owing to provision of adjustable controlled oscillations. 3 cl, 1 dwg
