FIELD: production of sinter by travelling-grate sintering machines from fine fractions of various ores and ore concentrates preliminarily prepared by agglomeration. SUBSTANCE: ignition hearth is a body lined with refractory brick, flat suspended roof and built-in gas burner devices which are tubular fantail burners with supply of secondary air. These burners are located transversely over the entire width of sintering belt. In this case, there are not more than four and not less than two burners with optimal positioning of them from layer of sinter burden to provided for stable and uniform ignition over the entire width of sintering belt. Burners are positioned so that angles of flame opening provides for joining of flame boundaries along straight tangent at the surface of burden layer without crossing one another. Hearth itself including framework of metal structures which supports body with lining, roof and burners is made to move over sintering belt and to be fixed in the required position. EFFECT: higher efficiency. 2 cl, 4 dwg
