FIELD: radar meteorology for precipitation measurement. SUBSTANCE: the method provides for radar sounding of atmosphere with subsequent identification of cloudness according to the known criteria and measurement of sought precipitation parameters with the use of correlation functions and data of radar sounding. To enhance the accuracy of precipitation measurement with employment of a precipitation - measuring station, the radar is subjected to calibration. The actual precipitation parameters are determined according to the data of the precipitation-measuring station, and the levels of radar reflectability corresponding to them are found. Using the obtained data, the coefficients of correlation functions are found with due account made for the type of cloudness and type of precipitation that are them used for measurement of precipitation on the whole territory controlled by the radar.
