FIELD: electrical engineering. SUBSTANCE: protective gear has pile of highly nonlinear resistors placed in insulating case with ribbed protective coat; space between resistor pile and case is filled with heat-conducting dielectric potting compound. Case is complex in shape and has horizontal and vertical parts. Horizontal part is made in the form of plate and functions as device base. Vertical part is made in the form of cylinder that has different wall thickness in sectional area; sections with minimal wall thickness provide for case rupture in case of explosion of device; sections with maximal wall thickness have point contact with resistor pile. Insulation] may be made of glass-reinforced plastic and minimal wall thickness is not over 3 mm. Horizontal part of case mounts metal plate that follows its shape and is sealed with elastic compound. Ribbed coat is made of tracking- and precipitation-resistant silicone rubber. Cylinder wall sections having point contact with resistor pile may be of triangular shape in cross-section with top at contact point, or segment, or it may be of semi-circle shape limited by arc.
