FIELD: metallurgy, processes for drawing wire, particularly, expensive precision alloys in electronic and radio industry branches. SUBSTANCE: method of making wire by hot drawing comprises step of heating blank before drawing it through drawing die. Heating is realized due to exciting irregular glow discharge between blank being cathode and anode embracing it in working gas medium in magnetic field directed in parallel to blank surface along it (by means of solenoid embracing said anode) or along concentric circles embracing blank (by means of electric current passed along blank). In order to make wire with coat used as grease at drawing or for finishing article, additional irregular glow discharge is excited at inlet of blank to drawing die or before winding wire onto receiving reel. Glow discharge is excited in working gas medium in magnetic field directed along blank or wire between blank or wire being anode and hollow cylindrical cathode coaxially embracing it and opened at both ends. At least part of cathode turned to blank or wire is made of material used as coat. Process for removing layer of grease from wire surface is identical to that used for heating wire. It is possible to use drawing die as member providing electric contact with blank and wire and also as sealing member of vacuum gate separating space for ion-plasma heating of blank and cleaning it from environment or from space for additional treatment of wire after drawing.
