FIELD: road-building machinery. SUBSTANCE: this relates to compaction of road-building materials. Roll of road roller has drum made of resilient material and side disks. Located in inner space of drum are smaller bracket-mounted rolls of length which is smaller than drum length. Distance between counter-located generants of diametrically positioned inner rolls exceeds inner diameter of drum. Rolls are made in the form of hydraulic coupling filled with liquid and containing pumping wheel stationary fixed on shaft and turbine wheel mounted on roll axle and rigidly connected with bracket. External cylindrical surface of each inner roll in planes perpendicular to its axis is provided with circular ribs. Hydraulic coupling allows for creation of braking torque on roll during its movement on surface of drum. Braking torque in the form of friction force occurring at point of inner roll contact with inner surface of drum is transmitted to drum and in given case functions as circular motive force which makes roll rotating. Thus roll becomes driving one with substantial reduction of wave formation and improving quality of surface layer of material being compacted. Circular ribs on outer surface of inner rolls improve heat removal from zone of hydraulic coupling location. EFFECT: higher efficiency. 1 cl, 2 dwg
