FIELD: mechanical engineering. SUBSTANCE: worn-out surfaces of axle journals are degreased and subjected to mechanical working. Then laser fusing and grinding are performed. Basic metal of axle journal is controlled thermostatically at temperature of at least 150 C, and fusing material is annealed at temperature of 300-350 C for 30-35 min. This done, laser fusing is carried out in the following modes: laser power is at least 1.5 kW with laser radiation diameter of not less than 1.5 mm powder fed at speed of 0.1 g/s and more, angle of nozzle slope to vertical axis of laser beam is equal to 35-45 deg. Beads are superposed one upon the other at overlap coefficient of 0.5-0.7 with subsequent thermal treatment. Axle journal is turned to depth not exceeding the height of laser fusing bead. Thermal treatment of journals after fusing is performed in the following mode: heating of journal up to 580 ± 15 C, maintenance of axle journal at the temperature for at least 10 min, and cooling of axle journal in still air. EFFECT: enhanced wear resistance of recovered journal surface. 5 cl
