FIELD: metallurgy, namely continuous casting of hard-to-form metals. SUBSTANCE: casting vessel has two chambers with two immersible dead-bottom nozzles and it may move in horizontal and vertical planes. Walls of one wall pair of mold are vertical; walls of another wall pair are inclined in their upper portions. Vertical walls are no cooled ones; changeable inserts are mounted on their working surface. Method comprises steps of alternative casting of two liquid metals to mold for making predetermined length billet; realizing skin formation only on inclined upper portion of walls; providing maximum casting level of first liquid metal and ceasing metal feed for subsequent pressing out melt in casting direction at baring skins along walls of second wall pair on inclined upper portion; casting second liquid metal into space between skins of billet at additionally reducing two metal layers. Optical sensor for detecting level of cast metal is mounted in front of mold inlet. Pickup for sensing speed of billet motion and automatic control system are mounted under mold. EFFECT: enhanced efficiency of casting process, possibilities for making predetermined length bimetallic billet with enhanced strength of bimetallic joint and controlling casting process. 2 cl, 2 dwg
