FIELD: metallurgy. SUBSTANCE: method involves introducing start-up piece and feeding melt into crystallizer; feeding two strips along first pair of walls of crystallizer by means of drums and devices for pressing strips to walls without melting these strips, with strips being made from metal to be cast. Apparatus has crystallizer with two pairs of walls. First pair of walls has widened upper parts and these walls are positioned for rotation. Second pair of walls are positioned for reciprocation and provided with longitudinal water-cooled channels. First pair of walls are made in the form of heating tubes and provided with thermocouples and automatic system for regulating wall temperature. EFFECT: increased efficiency, improved quality of billets, increased yield and enhanced reliability in operation. 4 cl, 2 dwg
