FIELD: generation of very strong magnetic fields and heavy pulse currents. SUBSTANCE: generator depends for its operation on fast clipping of magnetic flux inside conductive enclosure. Novelty is that generator has clipping facility in the form of electron accelerator loaded into bremsstrahlung target and that enclosure is filled with easily ionized gas. Magnetic field is clipped in this generator by gas-ionizing wave traveling at almost sonic speed caused by flow of Compton electrons produced, in their turn, by flow of gamma quanta knocked out of accelerator target. EFFECT: provision for preventing generator destruction and development of Rayleigh-Taylor instability. 3 dwg
