FIELD: fibrous materials. SUBSTANCE: substrate is placed in chamber and heated by means of direct electromagnetic connection with inductor to establish temperature gradient in substrate so that the latter has higher temperature in its parts outlying from outside surfaces than at their level. Gaseous reaction phase of infiltration material precursor is fed into chamber, wherein formation of infiltration material is inhibited by elevated temperature in above-indicated parts of substrate. According to invention, substrate consists of fibrous structure for which relation ρr/ρc between transverse and longitudinal electric conductivities is at least 1.3 and relation λr/λc between transverse and longitudinal heat conductivities does not exceed 0.9, whereas substrate is entirely in the field generated by inductor, with respect to which substrate is in a fixed position. Substrate should advantageously be formed from fibrous felt-type structure with volume content of fibers no less than 20%. EFFECT: optimized conditions for compaction of fibrous substrates. 6 cl, 4 dwg, 2 ex
