FIELD: metallurgy, more specifically, preparation of charge materials for steel melting in converter. SUBSTANCE: method includes heating and roasting of limestone in rotary tube kilns with the aid of natural gas flame, cooling of produced line and its supply to converter. Prior to preparation of lime, limestone is mixed with dolomite. Dolomite-limestone ratio is established within 0.1-1.0 and their fraction values ratio is within 0.4-1.0. Mixture of limestone and dolomite is roasted at temperature of flame of natural gas within 1200-1600 C for 2.0-3.5 h with specific consumption of natural gas within 100-300 cu.m/t of mixture at kiln rotation speed of 0.6-1.0 rpm. Then, produced line is cooled to temperature of 80-120 C for 0.5-1.0 h. Line is supplied to converter in 1-24 h after its removal from kiln. EFFECT: higher quality of melted steel and reduced losses of iron in converter; higher lining stability and cut down cost of line preparation process. 2 cl, 1 tbl
