FIELD: production of magnesium and chlorine by electrolysis of molten salts. SUBSTANCE: electrolyzer producing magnesium and chlorine includes housing with lining, assembled cell and electrolytic compartments where cathodes with ribs and anodes with chlorine-removing conduits are placed at interelectrode distance. Conduits have alternating protrusions and recesses in outer surface of anode and ribs of cathodes are located in opposition to protrusions of chlorine-removing conduits. Height of ribs on cathodes is equal to 0.2-0,4 value of interelectrode distance and distance between ribs of cathodes is equal to 1 or 2 distances between axes of chlorine-removing conduits of anodes. EFFECT: enhanced yield of magnesium and productivity of electrolyzer, reduced specific consumption of electricity. 2 cl, 1 dwg
