FIELD: production of magnesium and chlorine by electrolysis of molten salts. SUBSTANCE: electrolyzer producing magnesium and chlorine has housing which walls are lined on inside, electrolytic cells with cathodes of frame type with longitudinal and lateral plates brought into them, anodes placed between plates with interpole gaps and prefabricated cells separated from electrolytic cells by diaphragm ( partition ). Longitudinal axes of anodes located by wall of electrolyzer opposite to prefabricated cell and longitudinal axes of plates of cathodes are parallel to prefabricated cell. Longitudinal axes of anodes and cathodes positioned in frame cathode are perpendicular to prefabricated cell. Upper edges of cathodes are located at different levels with decrease towards prefabricated cell by value of 1.5-2.5 interpole gap.
