FIELD: gas purification. SUBSTANCE: method involves directing gas flow through corona discharge zone; neutralizing charge in dust deposit, with return corona discharge being excluded. Charge neutralizing is performed by periodically compressing dust deposit layer between working surfaces of receiving electrode. Apparatus has gas conduit with discharge electrodes and receiving electrode plates fixed on connecting member made in the form of expanding resilient bellows. Receiving electrode plates are resiliently positioned on bellows ribs at an angle to them so that they may be pressed one to another with their working surfaces upon compression of bellows. Dust deposit layer is accumulated at time interval during which bellows is held in fixed expanded position. Time interval is determined by slowing of dust deposit growth or by development of return corona discharge zones. Further resilient compression of receiving electrode plates results in reduced dust deposit layer porosity. This causes abrupt decrease in electric resistance of dust layer and improves contact with receiving electrode surface.
