SUBSTANCE: invention relates to azethidinones of the formula (I) substituted with hydroxyl where Ar1 and Ar2 - aryl or aryl substituted with a residue R4; Ar3 - aryl substituted with a residue R5; R and R2 are taken among the group including OR6,-O(CO)R6; R1 and R3 are taken among the group including hydrogen atom and lower alkyl; q = 0 or 1; r = 0 or 1; m, n and p = 0-2; at least one of index q and r = 1 and the sum of indices m, n, p, q and r = 2 or 3; and if p = 0 and r = 1 then sum m, q and r = 2 or 3; R4 is taken among the group including halogen atom, -OR6,-O(CH2)1-5OR7; R5 is taken among the group including -OR6,-O(CO)R6, -(lower alkylene)-COOR8; R6,R7,R8 are taken among the group including hydrogen atom, lower alkyl that can be substituted with aryl. Compounds can be used as a hypocholesterolemic agent. Invention relates to also a method of decrease of serum cholesterol by using the proposed compounds or their combination with inhibitor of cholesterol biosynthesis and pharmaceutical composition containing thereof and showing hypocholesterolemic activity.
