FIELD: communication. SUBSTANCE: device identifies set of transmission candidate cells which have necessary signal level for establishing call, forced sequence of calls of mobile terminal from cell that is serving it now to sequence of transmission candidate cells. Then locator measures signal level and delay in its transmission between mobile terminal and base stations. Then, either signal level or delay in its distribution or both are used for calculation of distance between mobile terminal and each base station, which is related too each transmission candidate cells, and between mobile terminal and base station that is serving it now. Then calculated distances provide set of arcs, possible locations of mobile terminal, so that mobile terminal locator calculates intersection of sequence of arcs, possible position in order to detect position of mobile terminal. EFFECT: possibility to operate in cellular telecommunication systems with synchronized reference synchronization signal or without it. 17 cl, 5 dwg
