FIELD: forestry. SUBSTANCE: method involves processing images of satellite photographs of different geographical regions; sequentially converting image portions into digital matrices of dependence of brightness from spatial coordinates; calculating matrices digital characteristics; providing coincidence of matrices whose picture elements are composed of zonal ratios of brightness of spectral zonal image and matrices of radar images of the same parts; vectorizing picture members and obtaining resultant matrices; additionally calculating autocorrelating functions of resultant matrices; calculating biomass of plantations on predetermined regions by regressive dependence. Method allows biomass of underlying surface on vast areas to be calculated by coinciding image of outer crown cover and inner structure of plant community, forming resultant matrices of images and calculating their additional characteristics connected with biomass. EFFECT: increased precision and provision for obtaining reliable evaluation data. 5 dwg, 1 tbl
