FIELD: peripheral grinding of materials predisposed to formation of defects. SUBSTANCE: grinding is performed by wheel with variable discontinuity which enables roughing and finishing. Stationary abrasive- carrying bars are positioned on projections of body. Longitudinal recesses of body accommodate moving abrasive-carrying bars coupled with mechanism of their longitudinal motion. Roughing is performed by intermittent surface of wheel. After removal of main allowance wheel is changed over to continuous grinding mode. To this end, moving abrasive-carrying bars are displaced to operating zone of stationary members. Moving bars may be set for formation of axially shifted continuous cutting layer. These actions make it possible to reduce thermal stress of process and to prevent occurrence of burns and microcracks. EFFECT: enhanced efficiency. 4 dwg
