FIELD: video equipment. SUBSTANCE: non-linear video signal processing provides gamma correction in order to improve displaying of picture details about black regions. In addition, image brightness is improved, when amplification depends on brightness and frequency characteristics. In each channel, respective color signal (R, G, B) is separated in stages (18) into low amplitude level constituent (V 2) and high amplitude level constituent (V 3). Said high amplitude level constituent (V3) is subjected to high-pass filtration (20). Said low amplitude level constituent V2 and part of high amplitude level constituent subjected to high-pass filtration V4 are mixed (R1, R2, R4) to initial linear video signal (V1 or R) in order to produce total signal (i5), which is applied to kinescope (12). Part of low amplitude level constituent V2 is bound to linear signal V1 using constant constituent R2. Part of high amplitude level constituent V2 is bound to linear signal V1 using variable constituent C2. EFFECT: improved image contrast using non-linear processing of video signal. 8 cl, 8 dwg
