FIELD: chemical engineering. SUBSTANCE: invention, in particular, relates to tower- type reactors provided with heat exchangers. Invention aims at maintaining optimal conditions for heat exchange between reaction gases and walls of heat exchanger tubes under variable thermal load in reactor. Operation of reactor is controlled by transducer 25 placed in reaction zone and measuring instrument 26 to maximum-search unit 27. Current value of heat transfer coefficient is continuously measured and, if this value is deviated from its maximum value, reactor pressure is lowered or raised by the method of successive approximations by the aid of regulator 28 connected to unit 27. As a result, specific velocity of reaction gases correspondingly varies leading to variation of heat transfer coefficient. Using unit 27, maximum value of this coefficient is found, which is optimal for given ethylene hydroxychlorination process conditions. EFFECT: enhanced process efficiency. 1 dwg
