FIELD: mechanical engineering; engines. SUBSTANCE: proposed invention relates to internal combustion engines with spool-type valve timing mechanism and provides control of valve timing phases depending on crankshaft speed, improved quality of fuel mixture preparation and uniform combustion of fuel-air mixture over entire volume of combustion chamber, better cleaning of combustion chamber and charging it with fresh air. According to invention cylinder block with fitted-in cylinder has radial intake and exhaust ports, and cylindrical spool with external screw blade rotating on outer surface of block is provided with profiled ports. When ports of spool coincide with ports of cylinder block, intake scavenging and ventilating processes take place, and external blade of spool ensures delivery of air and scavenging of combustion chamber. At changes of crankshaft speed, spool, acted upon by centrifugal governor, moves along axle, thus changing relative position of its port relative to cylinder block which provides changes in port alignment periods, i.e. changing of valve timing phases depending on engine speed.
