FIELD: bridge engineering. SUBSTANCE: pier has columns integrated by cross-bar and transversal struts. Novelty is that thickness of struts, as viewed from top, crosswise of bridge pier is 0.6-1.0 of cross-sectional area of column in this direction; struts are installed so that their top edge is at elevation equal to that of highest position of upper surface of ice or exceeds this elevation by not more than half the largest cross-sectional area of column. Optimal proportion of parameters of pier members ensures adequate redistribution of thrusts taken by pier members. EFFECT: reduced material input; improved reliability. 7 cl, 4 dwg
