FIELD: bridge engineering. SUBSTANCE: pier has columns joined by cross-bar and ice cutter installed on top pier side and made in the form of inclined member abutting against supporting members with its upper end supported by cross-bar end. Novelty is that length of inclined member projection to horizontal plane is 1-2.5 of clear distance between columns; this member is inclined through 20-60 deg. to horizontal line; bottom edge of inclined member is at elevation equal to lowest level of ice during its floating or below this level. Inclined member may be made in the form of reinforced concrete beam with metal facing. Reliability of work is improved due to elimination of dynamic load on pier by selecting optimal parameters of inclined member at which there is fluent crawling of ice blocks to inclined member and their break-up under their own weight, and fall of their fragments in water. EFFECT: reduced material and labor consumption for pier erection. 2 cl, 1 dwg
