FIELD: separation of liquid heterogeneous systems, separation of suspensions in particular; chemical, food-processing, medical and other industries. SUBSTANCE: binary hydrocyclone for separation of suspensions has two cylindroconical housings, inlet, drain and sand branch pipes, overflow chamber with branch pipe for discharge of clarified liquid, preliminary inertial separation chamber located symmetrically relative to axis of inlet branch pipe whose side walls are engageable with walls f inlet branch pipe and are provided with curvilinear profile with convexity directed towards axis of symmetry of chamber; they are mounted at spaced relation to flat wall located in inlet branch pipe perpendicularly relative to direction of motion of flow and engageable with cylindrical parts of surfaces of housing. EFFECT: intensification of settling of solid phase particles due to increase of centrifugal force acting on particles due to change in shape of radial profile of peripheral component of speed in housing of binary hydrocyclone and redistribution of solid phase particles in radial direction due to preliminary inertial separation in chamber before admitting flows into housings and due to reduced path and time of settling because of reduced thickness of film of suspension being separated, thus enhancing separating ability of binary hydrocyclone. 2 dwg
