FIELD: technology of formation of polyethylene coatings on metal surfaces with smooth working surface; applicable in electrical industry for protection of articles from environmental effect. SUBSTANCE: method consists in that powder of super-high-molecular polyethylene is activated by preliminary pressing by blast with speed of metal hammer of 250-450 m/s and ratio of its density to sum of specific densities of steel shield, upper punch and layer of pressed powder equaling 1.31-3.19, with subsequent grinding of pressed superhigh-molecular polyethylene to particle sizes of initial powder. Ground superhigh- molecular polyethylene is applied to article heated up to temperature of 300-320 C in one layer. Final heat treatment of article with applied coating is carried out for 15-25 min. Technical result of claimed method is development of a new technology of application of polymer powder to metal article based on placing of polymer powder of superhigh-molecular polyethylene in assembled metal container with subsequent blasting activation of polyethylene in process of pressing, grinding up to sizes of initial powder particles and application of activated polymer to heated metal surfaces. Coatings produced by claimed method feature high strength of polymer cohesion with metal of metal articles with smooth (undeveloped) working surface and highly efficient protection of surfaces of high-precision articles operating under conditions of high static and sign-variable dynamic loads.
