FIELD: manufacture of thermocouples. SUBSTANCE: block of material is taken for manufacturing thermocouple. Thermoelectric properties of thermocouple are varied by changing direction of electric current flowing through this block. The latter is placed in elongated ampoule so that direction in which electric current is passed through block is aligned with longitudinal axis of ampoule. Upon degassing ampoule is subjected to deformation treatment so as to reduce its cross-sectional area and to obtain its plastic deformation. In the course of deformation treatment non-sintered compressed material inside ampoule is crushed. Then ampoule is subjected to heat treatment with the result that non-sintered compressed material in plastically deformed ampoule is sintered. Sintered chip body is extracted from plastically deformed ampoule. EFFECT: improved thermoelectric properties, enhanced mechanical strength. 12 cl, 21 dwg, 2 tbl
