FIELD: medicine, microbiology. SUBSTANCE: the tested material is fixed by acetone, then saturated alkali solution of methylene blue is applied. Dyeing is conducted for 20- 25 min in an exiccator at 37 C. A spare fixation of a smear and prolonged incubation in thermostat provide the most effective picture of its dyeing. Gram- positive microorganisms are dyed into grayish-blue color, but gram-negative ones - into bluish-black color. Protozoa are dyed into light-blue color with bluish-black nuclei and pronounced contour. EFFECT: increased information rate and prediction value, shortened period of testing and decreased cost due to simultaneous differentiation of both gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria and protozoa. 2 ex
