INVERTED TRAVELING-WAVE TUBE Russian patent published in 2002 - IPC

Abstract RU 2185001 C1

FIELD: vacuum and plasma electronics; microwave amplifiers and oscillators for electronic equipment and process plants. SUBSTANCE: tube has coaxial transit-time channel and slow-wave system contiguous with the latter on side cylindrical surface and made in the form of circuit of cavities closed in azimuth, each one being electrodynamically coupled with transit-time channel via annular gap; at least one microwave absorber is placed in one of cavities. Tube is provided with cylindrical section of evacuated envelope made of nonmagnetic electricity conducting material; this envelope accommodates coaxially mounted slow-wave system; transit-time channel is formed by coaxial internal surface of envelope and external side surface of slow-wave system provided with annular gaps; internal side surface of slow-wave system is shorted out and microwave absorber is placed in cavity on side of internal shorted-out surface of slow-wave system and/or on side of its external side surface with annular gaps. Circuit of slow-wave system cavities closed in azimuth is made in the form of sequentially alternating disks and bushings rigidly fixed on central rod with rim provided on periphery of each disk; end surfaces of adjacent rims are separated by clearances. Central rod has axial cooling channel. High-power devices built around these tubes can operate in EHF band without impairing their stability, service life, and reliability of heat and power loaded components. EFFECT: enhanced medium and pulse power of short-wave tubes, reduced size and mass. 8 cl, 7 dwg
