FIELD: mechanical engineering: internal combustion engines. SUBSTANCE: invention is designed for reducing noise and vibrations of pistons of piston engines and other mechanisms of ship and stationary power generating plants. Proposed vibration isolator has torus-shaped flexible member made of steel wire rope whose coils are ellipse-shaped with larger axis of each coil being parallel to axis of vibration isolator. It has also support plates and pressure rings arranged on inner surface of support plates. Places of passing and fixing of coils on support plates are made in form of ring groove with concave profile, and on pressure rings, in form of ring projection with convex profile. Each half of coil of torus-shaped flexible member has curvature close to straight line and owing to no-stressed state without preloading contributes to improvement of elasticity characteristics of vibration isolator.
