FIELD: passivation of metal surfaces of equipment and pipe lines, including atomic power plants; steam thermal oxidation. SUBSTANCE: method consists in acting on metals and alloys by steam- and-gas medium at elevated temperature in steam chamber at 375 to 575 C at natural circulation of steam-and-gas medium in steam chamber; in the course of treatment, partial pressure is maintained at level of no less than 10% of total pressure of steam- and-gas medium. Device proposed for realization of said method has steam chamber, liquid medium reservoir, liquid medium heaters and steam-and-gas medium heaters; said device is provided with steam condenser connected with condensate receiver by means of steam line; condensate receiver is connected with steam chamber by means of over-flow tube; chamber is provided with perforated partitions, gas supply branch pipe located in lower part of steam chamber above perforated partitions, steam-and-gas medium receiver located at the top of steam chamber and connected with steam condenser by means of steam line forming steam-and-gas medium natural circulation system; liquid medium reservoir is located in lower part of chamber under partitions.
