FIELD: railway transport; testing facilities. SUBSTANCE: invention can be used in antiskid devices of locomotives. According to said method two identical recorders are installed locomotive bottom with displacement relative to each other in direction of locomotive running and they continuously meter information parameter characterizing one of periodically changing properties of railway bed structure members along track, comparing said parameter with preset threshold, measuring time interval between moments of recording overthreshold values by both recorders, one after the other and determining linear speed of locomotive. Degree of continuity of surface periodically changing at border of open section of ballast layer and the is used as property under checking. Railway bed is continuously acted upon by wave radiation simultaneously under both recorders, wave radiation being distributed in direction parallel to longitudinal axes of ties. Sum of intensities of radiation reflected from bed surface is used as information parameter. EFFECT: increased functional reliability of locomotive linear speed measurement. 1 dwg
