FIELD: mechanical engineering. SUBSTANCE: proposed method is implemented by temporarily dividing combustion chamber into plug and plugless spaced, igniting mixture by spark in plug spaces and by flame torch in other spaces and temporarily combusting mixture in space independently from each other, subsequently connecting spaces and after- combustion mixture in combined combustion chamber. By relative arrangement of spark and sparkles spaces combustion process can be organized according to three schemes of torch ignition: parallel torch, series torch and mixed ones. EFFECT: improved antiknocking properties of engine with spark ignition or provision of acceptable roughness of engine operation when hydrogen is used as fuel. 2 cl, 3 dwg
