FIELD: mechanical engineering; internal combustion engines.
SUBSTANCE: according to invention, combustion chamber is temporarily divided into two or more spaces, one of which is spark plug space. Burning starts in spark plug space and continues independently until pressure of gases in spark plug and adjacent spaces reaches critical ratio, after which spaces are united. Burning gases with critical velocity ignite mixture in adjacent space. Each following space is united in turn with preceding spaces at critical ratio of gas pressures, and mixture in following space is ignited by burning gases from preceding spaces flowing at critical velocity. As a result, flame envelopes last portions of charge in adjacent and following spaces before their self-ignition.
EFFECT: improved antiknocking properties of spark-ignition internal combustion piston engines.
