FIELD: metal working, possibly in motor vehicle and bearing making industry branches for automatic dressing of grinding wheels at double-side grinding, especially of thin-wall parts. SUBSTANCE: method comprises steps of forming on working surface of coaxially mounted grinding wheels intermittent macrorelief in the form of alternating circular trapezoidal-shape grooves at autonomous varying of closeness of macrorelief in wide range on ends of left and right grinding wheels. In order to realize it dressing diamond tools are subjected to motion along circle arc and also to axial motion. Dressing tools are moved by depth of removed abrasive layer for one pass by means of retractable double-side feeler; intermittent macrorelief is formed also with use of said feeler that is rigidly joined with rod of hydraulic cylinder. Depth of recess of circular groove consists 2 - 4 depth values of abrasive layer removed at dressing for one pass. EFFECT: enhanced efficiency of dressing, improved quality of surface layer of ground parts, elimination of using special intermittent grinding wheels. 3 cl, 4 dwg
