FIELD: transport engineering. SUBSTANCE: proposed steering mechanism contains case 1 accommodating piston 2 dividing space of case 1 into two working chambers which are connected with liquid pressure source through distributor. Gear rack mounted on piston 2 comes into meshing with gear sector 11 of pitman arm shaft 12. Screw 25 installed coaxially with piston 2 is mechanically coupled with piston by circulating ball-and-nut drive. Profile of cross-section of part of piston 2 on which gear rack is mounted is made in form of ring segment, and nut 18 of ball-and-nut drive is installed stationary relative to piston 2. Slot 31 is made in gear sector. EFFECT: improved compactness of steering mechanism. 8 cl, 6 dwg
