FIELD: nonferrous metallurgy. SUBSTANCE: invention relates to magnesium alloys suited for wide use in motor-car industry and provides magnesium-based alloy containing, wt %: aluminum 2.6-3.4, zinc 0.11-0.25, manganese 0.24-0.34, silicon 0.8-1.1, and calcium 0.05-0.10. Preparation method comprises loading alloying components, pouring molten magnesium, adding titanium-containing melt with flux, aging and casting melt, said alloying components being aluminum, zinc, manganese, silicon, and calcium and aluminum, zinc, manganese, and silicon being loaded in the form of solid Al-Zn-Mn-Si addition alloy. Thereafter, molten magnesium is poured, melt is heated, aged, and stirred before addition of titanium-containing melt with flux. Melt is further stirred, cooled, and calcium is charged under melt layer. EFFECT: diminished grain size thereby improving mechanical properties of alloy, and reduced losses of alloying components due to specific sequence of adding the latter. 4 cl, 1 dwg, 2 tbl
