FIELD: medicine. SUBSTANCE: method involves setting multi-zone impedance probe so that the distal probe end is above the gastroesophageal sphincter. Intraesophageal impedance is recorded at low measuring electric current frequency of 1 to 15 Hz and high frequency of 0.2 to 1 MHz in several zones. Specific electric resistance of the esophageal mucous membrane (ρ). Specific electric resistance of the esophageal mucous membrane plot is built in zones under study. The value being ρ>3 Ohm/m, axial hernia of esophageal orifice of diaphragm is to be diagnosed. Hernia dimensions are determined from height of high specific electric resistance shift zone.
