FIELD: medicine.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to field of medicine, namely to radiodiagnostics, and can be applied in carrying out computed tomographic diagnostics of hiatal hernias. Method lies in axial computed tomography. Esophageal-aortal index is calculated at the level of medium of abdominal part of esophagus as ratio of area of section of abdominal part of esophagus to area of abdominal part of aorta. If index value is higher than 1.0, presence of lumen of 1.5 cm2 and larger and gastric folds in esophagus section, hiatal hernia is diagnosed.
EFFECT: application of the claimed invention makes it possible to facilitate computed tomographic diagnostics of hiatal hernias, extend possibilities of routine computed tomography of thoracic and abdominal cavities for diagnostics of early hiatal hernias.
