FIELD: railway transport; permanent way. SUBSTANCE: invention relates to machines with measuring equipment used at construction of railways. Proposed machine has noncontact reader 13 in combination with instrument 14 for measuring at recording distance covered by machine to determine position of ties 5 of rail track 7. Said reader 13 is distance finder 16 for noncontact determination of distance in vertical between machine and track. Control device coupled with distance finder 16 serves for continuous and sequential division of track under checking into sections to be measured, namely, into identified section with tie including only insignificantly differing distance measurement values and adjoining section with ballast between ties 5. Method uses sequences of jump-like changed distance measurement data. EFFECT: provision of automatic alignment of tie tamper relative to ties. 7 cl, 4 dwg
