FIELD: nonferrous metallurgy.
SUBSTANCE: invention provides method comprising dehydration of magnesium chloride stock using chlorination agent followed by two-step loading of dehydrated stock into electrolyzer: first portion of molten stock is loaded during starting period, setup period, and 2/3 electrolyzer operation time and the second portion of stock is loaded in the form of solid during remaining electrolyzer operation time.
EFFECT: reduced power consumption and prolonged service time of electrolyzer.
