FIELD: methods of production of primary aluminum from alumina ore.
SUBSTANCE: proposed method includes conversion of alumina into aluminum sulfide Al2S3 and separation of aluminum from aluminum sulfide. Conversion of alumina into aluminum sulfide is performed by gaseous agent containing gaseous carbon disulfide CS2 at temperature when alumina is mainly γ-alumina. Device proposed for realization of this method includes first reactor for production of aluminum sulfide from alumina, second reactor for production of aluminum from aluminum sulfide and third reactor for production of carbon disulfide CS2. As compared with Hall-Heroult process, invention makes it possible to reduce expenses, power requirements, exclude emissions of fluorides, heavy metals and CO and considerably reduce emissions of CO2 and SO2.
EFFECT: enhanced efficiency.
