FIELD: metal cutting, namely rapid determination in working condition life of cutters and milling cutters of different tool materials.
SUBSTANCE: method comprises steps of working each of several blanks of different construction materials by means of separate blade type tool made of tested cutting materials at one value of optimal variable parameter selected for working material, for example cutting speed and constant values of all other parameters and factors during the same time period for all blanks; evaluating specific life of blade type tools of tested materials separately for each construction material according to result of above mentioned working. In order to enhance reliability, working time period is selected in range 30 -60 s. Wear degree of each blade type tool after working is evaluated due to measuring width of visible contact of trailing chip with front edge of tool. Specific life of tools of tested cutting materials is evaluated (in order of increasing it) according to lowered contact width of chip with front edge. When the same or practically the same wear degree was received for two or more blade type tools of different cutting materials at working blanks of the same construction material, it is possible to perform procedure of test working of blanks of the same construction material only by means of blade type tools of above mentioned cutting material at increased value of cutting speed or other important parameter of cutting process, for example thickness of cut layer or feed value and at other constant factors. Then specific life of blade type tools of compared cutting materials subjected to test working is evaluated.
EFFECT: enhanced reliability of determining life of blade type tools.
