FIELD: direct melting of metal from metal-containing material, such as ore.
SUBSTANCE: proposed vessel for direct melting is filled with molten metal and slag; this vessel has hearth, side walls running upward from hearth, roof and passage for evacuation of waste gas generated during direct melting. Waste gas evacuation passage has first section directed upward from inlet end of first section at angle to level lesser than 30 deg. and second section running upward from upper end of first section at angle to level of 80-90 deg. Vessel is provided with waste gas chamber located in center; first section of waste gas passage runs from waste gas chamber.
EFFECT: reduction of losses of molten metal and solid particles carried by waste gas.
