Abstract RU 2259256 C2

FIELD: continuous casting of metals, steel in particular.

SUBSTANCE: proposed method includes delivery of cooling agent in the course of casting to at least one cooling passage made in mold facing for heat exchange with casting surface of facing. The following operations are performed for control of direction of delivery of cooling agent. It is first found which direction is preferable: first direction or second opposite direction. Continuous casting is performed in mold at forced delivery of cooling agent in selected direction. It is good practice to make cooling passage in form of slot in mold facing with upper and lower ends. In case thickness of mold facing is lesser than preset magnitude, circulation of cooling agent may be considered preferable; in this case cooling agent enters cooling jacket and slots from below and escapes at the top for definite preliminary heating of cooling agent till it reaches area of meniscus of metal. And vice versa, in case thickness of mold facing exceeds its preset magnitude, it is good practice to deliver cooling agent to upper part of water jacket for enhancing cooling effect in area of meniscus of metal.

EFFECT: increased service life of facing; increased productivity.
