FIELD: animal farming.

SUBSTANCE: method involves determining coefficient value of reduction in relative growth rate of pigs and early maturation time, with age of achieving by pigs of live weight of 100 kg being used as early maturation time; determining meat type of pigs from coefficients which are established from formula M=C/K, where M is meat type formation coefficient; C is age at which live weight reaches 100 kg; and K is relative growth rate reduction coefficient; judging type of pigs on the basis of meat formation coefficient: pigs with meat formation coefficient of 1.76 and less are referred to as fast meat formation type of pigs, with said coefficient within the range of 1.77-4.20 - to moderate meat formation type of pigs, and with said coefficient equal to 4.21 and greater - to slow meat formation type of pigs.

EFFECT: increased selecting efficiency aimed at increasing meat formation and feeding qualities.
